Saints Close Season at the College of Idaho

The Saints travel to Caldwell, Idaho, to face the College of Idaho for the first time on the road since the resurgence of the second year program a season ago. The Saints look to close out the season on a high note and end with a 5-5 record. The Yotes are seeking their fourth win on the season. Of their three home losses, only the 42027 setback against Southern Oregon was by more than four points. They fell to Pacific University 32-31 and Montana Western 27-23.

LAST GAME: SAINTS FALL TO ROCKY 21-13
Carroll College fell 21-13 on the road Saturday in Frontier Conference football action against Rocky Mountain at Herb Klindt Field in Billings.

The Saints nearly held the Bears scoreless through the first half but Rocky scored with just three seconds left in the half to take a 7-3 lead into the break.

After trading possessions to start the third quarter, the Bears quickly drove the field and scored on four-yard touchdown from Chase White to Andre McCullouch to push their lead to 14-3.

The Saints answered with a field goal from Benton Braesicke with just one second left in the third quarter to cut the lead to 14-6.

Rocky took a 21-6 lead with 6:34 left in the game on a 38-yard touchdown from Jacob Bakken to Caleb Benson.

Mac Roche found Stephen Delaney for Carroll's first touchdown of the game with 2:21 left in the game to cut the deficit to 21-13 but with no timeouts left, the Saints couldn't stop the clock and Rocky ate the time with scramble plays and didn't give the Saints another shot.

ABOUT COLLEGE OF IDAHO
The Yotes are led by second-year head man Mike Moroski who has built a strong base of talent for the new team. C of I has wins against Eastern Oregon, MSU Northern and Rocky Mountain and three of their seven losses were by fewer than four points. 

The offense is run by a duo of quarterbacks. Teejay Gordon will take the majority of snaps, he has 167 completions on the season for 2074 yards and 11 touchdown. A.J. Martin has just seven passes on the season but he has three touchdowns to show for it but has 42 rushing attempts for 152 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.

Nate Moore leads the conference with six interceptions and is tops in the nation for passes defended per game at 2.4 he is also third on the C of I roster with 65 tackles. Troy Carr leads the Yotes with 73 tackles, good enough for 10th in the Frontier.


QUICK FACTS
• The Saints look to close out the season on a high note, traveling to Caldwell, Idaho to face the College of Idaho Yotes in a game that doesn't have playoff implications but will set the tone going into the offseason. 

• College of Idaho's Nate Moore is the nation's leader in passes defended per game at 2.4 he is also second in both interceptions and interceptions per game. 

•Yote quarterback Teejay Gordon  is 11th in the country for total offense and paces a C of I offense that is fourth in the Frontier in total offense. He has passed for 2074 yards and 11 touchdowns on the season. 

• A.J. Martin plays wildcat quarterback for C of I. he has thrown just seven passes all season, with four completions and three touchdowns. He is also potent with his feet running for 10 tds on the year.

• After tallying an atypical 15 penalties against Southern Oregon to start the season, the Saints have cut their penalty yards significantly and are now second in the conference in penalty yards per game. 

• The Saints are ranked fourth in the Frontier Conference for scoring defense at 23.3 points per game. Just slightly behind Southern Oregon who is giving up 22.9 points per game. 

• After seven games, Mac Roche Ranks 19th in the NAIA for passing yards per game with 222.3 yards.

• Roche ranks in the top 50 in the NAIA in passing yards per game, total passing, total offense per game, total offense and pass efficiency.

• Roche was named the Frontier Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his week one performance against SOU. James Dowgin was named the Defensive Player of the Week for the performance against UMW.

• Beaugh Meyer is 29th in the nation for tackles for loss per game at 1.4.

• Southern Oregon's 20 points against Carroll in week one was the lowest point output since a 2011 loss to Mary Hardin Baylor.

• Roche's four touchdown passes against Rocky Mountain is the high to date for the Frontier Conference.

• James Dowgin is second in the Frontier for tackles per game at 9.9. Greg Tucker is fifth with 9.4.

• Connor Fohn scored his first touchdowns as a Saint against Rocky Mountain and followed that up with a third quarter go-ahead score against Montana Western. The first was a 50-yard touchdown in the third quarter. The second was the game-winning 55-yarder with seven second remaining.

• Fohn broke out with 148 receiving yards on four catches against Rocky and followed that up with 137 yards against Montana Western.

• Running back Ryan Walsh is first on the team with 32 catches and is second on the team with 367 receiving yards.

• Walsh is seventh in the Frontier for rushing yards per game at 56.9 YPG.

• Beaugh Meyer is tied for third in the conference for tackles for loss per game at 1.4 and tied for 11th in the Frontier for sacks per game at 0.4.

•  Five Saints receivers: Connor Fohn, Eric Dawson, Troy Arntson, Connor McGree and Conner Poulson caught their first passes in a Carroll uniform against Southern Oregon. With a slew of injuries on the receiving corps, defensive back Ryan Gregory caught his first pass against as a Saint against Eastern Oregon.

• The Saints were unranked three weeks ago for the first time in a record 187 weeks in the poll. The last time Carroll was unranked was Oct. 31 2000.

• Head Coach Mike Van Diest has the best winning percentage (.844) of any active college football coach with more than ten years of experience. His winning percentage is also the fifth-best of all time behind Larry Kehres - .929 (Mount Union 1961-2012), Knute Rockne  - .881(Notre Dame 1918-1930), Frank Leahey  - .864 (Boston College, Notre Dame (1939-1953) and Bob Reade .862 (Augustana 1979-1994).
