HELENA, Mont. – Six Saints scored in double figures led by
Zach Taylor with 25 points and
Ryan Imhoff with 25 en route to a 119-49 win over Concordia University of Edmonton Sunday night in the Saints' season opener.
The Saints jumped out to a 9-2 lead and never looked back leading 62-32 at the half.
After the break the Carroll defense stepped up even more, allowing only 17 points in the second half while scoring 57.
The Saints tallied 24 assists while forcing 20 turnovers compared to just seven for the Carroll.
"I am happy to see the fellas share the apple," head coach
Carson Cunningham said. "They whipped it around on some possessions enough to turn it into sauce. That's fun to watch 24 assists with just 7 turnovers is something to build on."
The Saints were 44-of-77 from the field compared to 15-of-56 for the Thunder. Carroll also outrebounded Concordia 49-25.
"Our defensive rotations, for this point in the season, were snappy," Cunningham said. "Holding a team under 50 that had scored 70 or more the previous two nights was good to see. It's super-early and there's plenty of room for growth, but this was a nice start."
Carroll now has several weeks before playing their second game, neutral site game against the Menlo College on Oct. 30, as part of the Cal Maritime Frank Dye Invitational.
