Junkemier Spurs Saints to 77-47 win

HELENA, Mont. – Kalee Junkermeier was 7-of-8 from the field, including 6-of-7 from the three-point line to score 21 points in just 21 minutes and lead Carroll College to a 77-47 victory over the University of Calgary Sunday afternoon at Carroll PE Center.

Junkermier hit her first six shots, all threes to help the Saints surge to a 44-20 lead at the half.

The Saints eventually built a 63-27 in the second half and earned a 77-47 victory.

Cassidy Hashley also had a very efficient game, shooting a perfect 6-6 for 12 points. Katie Estey and Baylee Watson scored 10 points each to round out Carroll players in double-figures.

"We gave the kids a few days off for Christmas but they came back ready to play," head coach Rachelle Sayers said. "They were riding high after the Vegas tournament and they knew they couldn't have a letdown and they came in here and it didn't even look like we took a break."

Junkermeier's performance was evidence of the work she put in during the Christmas break.

"Kalee has been shooting the ball really well all year," Sayers said. "She didn't take any time off during Christmas. She came back really engaged in what we wanted to do and it paid off tonight."

The Saints close out the non-conference schedule with a 9-4 record.

Carroll faces No. 4 Westminster Thursday in Salt Lake City in the first game of the Fronteir Conference schedule. The Saints had a chance to see the Griffins in action at the Las Vegas tournament where both teams had identical records. They each went 2-1 with wins against No. 3 Vanguard and Hope International and a loss to No. 5 Campbellsville.

The game is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
