CALDWELL, Idaho – Cassidy Hashley tallied her second double-double in three games to lead the Carroll College women's basketball team to a 60-49 road victory over the College of Idaho Monday evening.
The Saints jumped out to an early lead and never trailed en route to the 11-point win.
Carroll started the game on a 21-6 run over the first nine minutes before the Yotes were able to cut the deficit to 29-23 with 17-8 run culminating in a pair of free throws with 1:48 left in the half. Hashley hit a bucket with 40 second left before the break to give the Saints a 31-23 lead at the half.
A 3-pointer by C of I's Aleah Lowber with 14:19 left in the second half jump started the College of Idaho offense to a 13-0 run that tied the game at 41 with 10:11 left in the game.
The Saints then went on a 14-2 run of their own to again seize control of the game over the final minutes to earn the tough road win without starting point guard Katie Estey.
"It was a hard fought win," head coach Rachelle Sayers said. "Three games on the road in three days without your starting point guard was definitely a test of our team's mental and physical toughness. I thought we definitely passed the test."
Kalee Junkermier scored 15 points and Bailey Snelling added 13 to join Hashley in double figures. The Saints were 19-51 (37.5 percent) from the field.
"We only made 19 field goals but had 12 assists," Sayers said. "That means we share the ball and are playing together. We also outrebounded all three of our opponents this week."
The inexperienced Carroll team is starting to build confidence amidst a tough non-conference schedule.
"I like the direction we are heading, our young team is starting to see their potential," Sayers said.
After tonight's performance Snelling has 106 points on the season and 990 for her career. She will look to surpass the 1,000 point mark at home against Milligan (Tenn.) on Dec. 12. The Saints play their final exhibition game of the season Sunday in Missoula against the University of Montana at 2 p.m.
