Missoula, Mont. – Carroll College Track & Field had a tremendous opener at the Al Manuel Invite on Friday March 22.
The Fighting Saints qualified 5 individuals for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships. Reuben Hornby hit a personal record and A Standard in the Javelin for the men, while the remainder of the qualifiers made the B Standard in their events. Sorren Reese qualified in the Javelin for the women. On the men's side, Weston Means jumped a personal best in the High Jump to win the event and qualify. Brycen Gardner won the 3000m Steeplechase and will join Hornby in heading to Outdoor Nationals for the 2nd year in a row. Zack Gacnik debuted in the track 5k, winning the race and approaching the A Standard in the event.
Multiple individuals placed in the Top 3 in their events at a competitive NCAA meet. Besides wins from Means, Gardner, and Gacnik, Rylee Herbstritt (100 Hurdles, 400 Hurdles), Chloe Raats (400m), Madalen Shipman (800m), Sorren Reese (800m), Eva Wagoner (400 Hurdles), Hannah Sempf (3000m Steeplechase), Luke Decker (3000m Steeplechase), Daniel Koralewski (3000m Steeplechase), and Carter White (Long Jump) scored in the Top 3 in their events.
Various other Saints besides Hornby and Means achieved personal records during the meet. In field events, Kayla Botkin (Hammer Throw), Wyatt Cox (Long Jump), Josh Smalley (Pole Vault), and Jackson Barney (Pole Vault) set lifetime bests. For running events, Shipman and Reese's 800s were their fastest ever, while Sempf (3000m Steeplechase), Anna Terry (5000m), and Ben Wallace (5000m) ran their personal best times as well.
"It was an awesome day, and I'm really proud of all of our athletes," said Head Coach Harry Clark. "We are off to an even better start than the past few years and are looking forward to improving from here," he added.

Next weekend the Saints will be off for Easter before returning to competition at the Providence Open on April 4.
