Helena, Mont. – The Carroll College Track and Field team wraps up the regular season for outdoor at the Montana Open in Missoula, Mont. on Friday April 24 and Saturday April 25.
The Fighting Saints will compete against the University of Montana as well as several Frontier Conference foes, sending a total of 25 women and 21 men to the meet. With the Frontier Conference Multi Championships last Sunday and Monday and with the Frontier Conference Outdoor Championships coming up next Saturday and Sunday, some Carroll competitors will rest or contest lighter events this weekend.
This will provide the second opportunity of the season for Carroll's 3000m Steeplechase runners. The Steeple is only contested at certain meets this season and will be raced this weekend by Brycen Gardner, Luke Decker, Logan Anderson, Jenna Castro, Amelia Mayes, and Sophie Sestrich.
Many Saints distance runners will compete in the 800m as Carroll looks towards the 4x800m Relay at the conference meet where both the men and women have goals of qualifying for Nationals. Carroll will run its top group this weekend in the Women's 4x400m with hopes of achieving the NAIA Qualifying Standard in that event.
Gardner (3000m Steeplechase), Zack Gacnik (5000m), and Madalen Shipman (800m) qualified for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships last year and will continue their pursuit of a qualifier this season. Across event areas, Hunter Gum (Shot Put), Abigail McBeain (Shot Put), and Rylee Herbstritt (400m Hurdles) have also approached the NAIA qualifying marks this spring.
On Friday, field events begin at noon Mountain Time on a rolling schedule. Field events begin at 11:00 am Saturday and running events will start at 12:05 pm.
