HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Women's Soccer team will take to their home pitch this afternoon, hosting Providence in a non-conference game before both teams begin the bulk of CCC play later this month.

The Fighting Saints (1-0-0) have not had many opportunities to play in 2023. Several early-season games and exhibitions were forced to be removed from the schedule for reasons beyond anyone's control, but the Saints will get a chance to put their practice to work this afternoon against Providence (1-2-0).

The two Cascade Collegiate Conference members will take the field this afternoon in rainy conditions, potentially a welcome change from the long and hot month of camp in August. The match will not count towards either school's conference record.

Both schools share one common opponent this season, with each having beaten Northwestern (Iowa) last month (CC 2-0, UP 4-2).

In the lone Saints game of the season, the offensive attack was as heavy as any in program history. Carroll finished with 35 total shots in the contest, including 22 in the first half alone. The Saints will look to try and match the output, but increase the quality and consistency of the strikes this afternoon.

A pair of Montana products, Emily Funseth (Great Falls, Mont. / SR) and Jaymee Sheridan (Helena, Mont. / JR) were the goal scorers in the last game for Carroll, and the staff anticipate their presence to continue to be felt throughout the 2023 season.

Providence enters the match off of a 16-1 loss to NCAA Division I opponent Eastern Washington, and will surely be motivated to bounce back today in Helena.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Nelson Stadium, and tickets are available at the stadium gate.
