HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll Women's Soccer team fell to Bushnell 1-0 in their CCC regular season finale on Saturday morning at Nelson Stadium.
The Fighting Saints (7-4-6, 6-2-4) had their opportunities to break free in the rare morning tilt at Nelson Stadium, but it was the Beacons (5-6-1, 6-7-3) who found a way to play spoiler and sneak out with a win.
The two teams were scoreless through the first 45 minutes. Carroll held a 4-2 edge in shots in the opening half, and goalkeeper Maria Ackerman (Billings, Mont. / SR)Â made a save on a shot from Bushnell's Elidia Cervantes Carlos in the 21st minute.
Bushnell broke through in the 70th minute, however, as Cervantes Carlos found the back of the net off an assist from Mia Morales for the only goal of the match. The goal came less than a minute after Bailey Koster (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho / FR) sent a shot wide right.
Carroll outshot Bushnell 10-5 overall, including 6-3 in the second half. Only one of those shots was on goal, however, a 67th-minute attempt by Carmen Anderson (Missoula, Mont. / JR) that Gabriella Montes saved. Rachel McAllister (Brier, Wash. / JR) led Carroll with four shots, and Delaney Moczan (Las Vegas, Nev. / SR) added two. Moczan sent a header wide left in the 64th minute, and nearly played hero as a late shot of hers hit the post in the 90th minute.
Ackerman finished with three saves in 90 minutes in goal, Montes made one save to earn the shutout for Bushnell.
The Saints will now await two final results from the weekend before learning who their opening round opponent will be at next week's CCC Championship.
