HELENA, Mont. - The No. 9 Carroll College Women's Basketball Team will begin their Frontier Conference regular season tonight in Helena, when they host No. 21 Montana Western at the Carroll PE Center at 5 p.m.
Carroll (4-3) begins their slate of Frontier Conference games against yet another ranked team. Montana Western (5-1) enters the week sitting at No. 21 in the latest edition of the NAIA Coaches' Poll. Tonight's game marks the fourth time Carroll has played a ranked opponent to start the year, and the fifth game against teams currently inside the Top 25.
Tonight's game features both the Frontier Conference Preseason Co-Players of the Year, Carroll's
Jamie Pickens (Helena, Mont. / SR) and Brynley Fitzgerald from Montana Western. The two are leading the Conference in points per game, Fitzgerald is averaging 19.0 ppg and Pickens is averaging 16.0 ppg.
"Over the course of the last 5 years, with the exception of last year it has come down to Carroll and Western playing for a conference title or a tournament title," Said head Coach Rachelle Sayers. "So it would make sense that we would open up conference play against one another. Western has a lot of fire power, they are well coached and they always play very hard. We will have to play well, and have to match their intensity. I feel like our preseason has prepared us for the intensity of this game. I know our players are ready to be home and are looking forward to the match up."Â
Carroll enters the evening with an eight game win streak against the Bulldogs dating back to 2019-2020, but will have their hands full with the lone other Frontier Conference opponent appearing in the NAIA Top 25.
The Carroll College SAAC is starting a Food Pantry, and is in the process of collecting non-perishable food items to stock the shelves, fans planning on attending tonight are encouraged to donate any non-perishable food item and assist Carroll student-athletes in giving back to their community.
