VANCOUVER, Wash. -- The Carroll Women's Soccer team opened their season on Sunday morning with a 2-0 victory over Western Oregon.

The Saints found themselves in a bind a little over a week ago when Multnomah, who they were originally supposed to play this weekend, announced that they were opting out of this spring season. In under a weeks notice, they were able to line up Sunday's game against Western Oregon and responded well to the challenge.

At the end of the first half, the game was dead even at 0-0. Both teams had opportunities but couldn't find the back of the net.

Then, in the second half, it was the Saints who broke the tie. Ashley Carter, a senior from Camas, Wash., assisted Hannah Mitchell, a senior from Nine Mile Falls, Wash., on the Saints' first goal of the season in the 51st minute.

It didn't take long for the Saints to strike again. In the 65th minute, McKenna Payne, a junior from Winchester, Calif., lined up for a corner kick. Payne's corner found it's way to Katie Anderson, a junior from Spokane, Wash., who was able to tuck it away for a goal. 

From there, the Saints held strong to win the game by a final score of 2-0. Sydney Green, a senior from Orting, Wash., had a clean sheet in goal.

Carroll will be back on the pitch tomorrow for a scrimmage against Vancouver Victory FC, an amateur team from Vancouver, Wash. The game will be played at 4 p.m. MST.
