YANKTON, S.D. The Carroll Indoor Track & Field team put on a strong showing at the NAIA National Indoor Meet this week in Yankton, S.D. Carroll was represented by two male athletes and eight female athletes. The women placed 12th in the country as a team.

Competition for the Saints began with a bang on Wednesday with the Women's Distance Medley Relay (DMR). Natalie Yocum, Kate Picanco, Elly Machado, and Reghan Worley clocked the 2nd fastest time of the day, earning them All-American status and a ticket Friday's final race.

"It was an incredible race that really demonstrated the inner fortitude and determination of each of the women," said Assistant Coach Shannon Flynn.

Also on Wednesday, Kelsey Bassett and Shae Helterbran competed in the pole vault. Kelsey Bassett cleared a personal record height in the pole vault to place 3rd in the nation, also becoming an All-American.

"I was very happy with how both Kelsey and Shae performed in the vault," shared Head Coach Harry Clark.

Lee Walburn and Josh Malone competed in Day 1 of the heptathlon on Thursday. Walburn was in 4th and Malone in 7th after the 1st day.

The team wrapped up competition on Friday. Things got started on Friday with the Shot Put. Nikki Krueger was crowned National Champion with a throw of 14.22 meters. Krueger had high hopes entering the week after she took over the number one spot in the nation at the DSU Blue Hawk Classic back in early February. She rose to the occasion, and walked away a champion.

After the Shot Put, three events remained on Friday in which Saints were competing.

In the heptathlon, Lee Walburn finished in fourth place earning All-American honors. Josh Malone was not able to finish the event after exiting the 1000m with an injury.

In the finals of the Distance Medley Relay Finals, the team of Natalie Yocum, Kate Picanco, Elly Machado, and Kendyl Pierson placed eighth to earn All-American honors.

To round out the meet, Reghan Worley represented Carroll in the 3000m. Worley placed seventh to earn All-American honors.
