La GRANDE, Ore. The Carroll College Fighting Saints Football team suffered their first loss of the season to Eastern Oregon in La Grande on Saturday, 28-0.
After a 0-0 first quarter, the Mountaineers started to find their stride in the second quarter. A Kai Quinn 17-yard touchdown pass to Cade Reed capped off an 88 yard drive with 8:38 left in the second quarter to give EOU a 7-0 lead.
Shortly after, at the 7:42 mark in the second quarter, the Mountaineers recovered a botched snap on a punt in the end zone for their second straight touchdown in less than a minute.
A John Lesser one-yard rushing touchdown put the Saints in a 21-0 hole going into half-time.
In the third quarter, the Mountaineers capitalized on Special Teams once more. With 11:35 left in the third, EOU blocked a Saints punt and Jordan Eggers took it into the end zone from 35 yards out for six. That was the final scoring play of the game as Eastern Oregon went onto win the game 28-0.
For the Saints, it was another productive day at the office for sophomore running back Matthew Burgess. Burgess had 21 carries for 134 rushing yards.
The offense of Eastern Oregon was led by senior quarterback Kai Quinn. Quinn completed 16 of his 28 pass attempts for 216 yards and a touchdown.
Carroll, now 1-1 on the year, will play their first home game of the year next Saturday at Nelson Stadium against Montana State-Northern.
