SPEARFISH, S.D. -- It was a strong showing for Saints' Track & Field at the Stinger Open at Black Hills State University.
"I was so impressed with every member of the team this weekend! They competed hard and were just great teammates, students, everything," said Head Coach Harry Clark.
The Saints solidified more competitors for the NAIA Indoor National Meet with individual qualifying performances by senior Shae Helterbran in the pole vault and sophomore Reghan Worley in the 3000m. The Women's 4x800 Relay and Women's Distance Medley Relay - both with Natalie Yocum, Elly Machado, Kendyl Pierson, and Worley - also qualified.
Beyond the new tickets to Nationals, there were a variety of other highlights. Lee Walburn achieved a personal record in the high jump, and Reilly Rostad had great showings in both the long jump and triple jump. Garrett Kocab won the shot put, while Christopher Abell placed second in the 60 hurdles. Kelsey Bassett (1st Place Pole Vault) and Nikki Krueger (2nd Place Shot Put) sharpened up for the National Meet after qualifying earlier this season.
A competitive relay capped off the meet. "The Men's 4x400 was incredibly exciting and that just reminds you why we all do this," exclaimed Coach Clark.
The Saints will send 10 athletes to the Indoor National Meet in Yankton, S.D. on March 3-6.
