HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College Track & Field team travels to Spearfish, SD this weekend for the Stinger Open hosted by Black Hills State University.

The meet will be the last chance to qualify for Indoor Nationals, and each of the 18 athletes will have a great shot at punching a ticket to the post-season. Taking another large group will contribute to strong team energy again this week.

There will be an emphasis on three different relays - the Women's Distance Medley (DMR), the Women's 4 x 800m Relay, and the Men's 4 x 400m Relay. Lee Walburn, a sophomore from Whitefish, Mont., is currently ranked 6th in the nation in the heptathlon and will be competing in several individual events. Multiple athletes making the trip competed in Spearfish in late January, so they should feel comfortable in the facility.

Athletes from ten NCAA & NAIA teams are expected to attend, so it will be a competitive environment. "We've been building up to this point, and the expectation is that every athlete will be focused and have a great performance," said Head Coach Harry Clark.

Competition kicks off on Friday for the Saints with the long jump and the DMR Relay and continues Saturday with the remainder of the running and field events.
