Box Score HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Women's Basketball team picked up their first win of the season this afternoon at the PE Center, defeating Viterbo University 81-44.
The Saints jumped all over the V Hawks right from the opening tip, starting the game on a 16-0 run through the midway point of the first quarter. Carroll continued to keep the pressure on Viterbo for the entirety of the first half. The Saints held Viterbo to only 15 points in the first, and carried a 46-15 lead into the break.Â
Viterbo managed to put together a much better offensive effort in the second half, with 29 of their 44 points coming in the second portion. Carroll simply would not allow the V Hawks back into the game, coming up with key stops and squandering any potential runs with great team play.
The Saints were led by a strong offensive showing from Junior Forward
Jamie Pickens, who's stat line included a game-high 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals. Defending Frontier Conference Player of the Week Dani Wagner shot 50 percent from the 3-point line, and finished with 13 points.Â
Carroll had a great team effort on the glass, out-rebounding the V Hawks 42-26, with 4 different players grabbing 5 boards each.
Emma Wagner played well for Viterbo, finishing with 11 points and a game-high 6 rebounds.
The Saints victory marked the 200th win at Carroll for Head Coach
Rachelle Sayers, and Carroll will look to build some momentum through the non-conference portion of their schedule. Carroll will host Central Baptist College at the PE Center on Wednesday, November 3rd at 7 pm. The game will be streamed live on the Fighting Saints Network, presented by Point S Tire & Auto at www.youtube.com/c/carrollathletics.Â
