Women's Basketball | 10/23/21 | 8:41 AM
HELENA, Mont. – Women's Basketball is back on the campus of Carroll College as the Fighting Saints tip off their season on Saturday night at the PE Center. Lining up opposite is the Fire of Southeastern University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Southeastern finished last year's regular season ranked 10
th nationally, creating a big-ticket match-up on Carroll's opening night. The Fire are 1-0 this season after beating Providence 91-68 on Thursday night in Great Falls.
Carroll was picked to finish first in the Frontier Conference this season in the preseason coaches' poll. Last year, the Saints won the conference regular season and tournament championship before an early exit in the NAIA National Tournament.
The Saints return just about everyone from last year's team that had one of the best seasons in program history, going 21-3. Headlining the returners are last year's All-Americans who were voted to this year's preseason all-conference team;
Danielle Wagner,
Jamie Pickens, and
Christine Denny. They were Carroll's top three scoring options last season and look to continue their success into the new year.
Wagner and Denny are the cornerstones of a star-studded senior class that includes other veterans such as
Sienna Swannack,
Kamden Hilborn,
Jaidyn Lyman, and
Emma Madsen.
Juniors
Genesis Wilkinson and
Maddie Geritz, who won the sixth player of the year award in the Frontier Conference as a sophomore, will join Pickens as the team's top post players.
In addition to the endless amounts of experience on this team, expect to see some new faces making an impact in freshmen
Addi Ekstrom and
Izzy Erickson.
Saturday will mark the start of year 11 for head coach
Rachelle Sayers as she continues to bring the program to new heights.
