Spearfish, SD - The Carroll College Fighting Saints sent a group of track & field athletes to the Merle Hanson Open in Spearfish, SD over the weekend. It was a welcome opportunity after almost a full year of training and waiting. "We're incredibly excited to be back competing," said Head Coach Harry Clark.

Several Saints capitalized during the two day meet. Madde Boles won the high jump with a mark that ranks her in the Top 10 nationally for NAIA. Sophie Loveless jumped to second in the triple jump and Shae Helterbran to third in the pole vault. Shae's vault places her in the NAIA Top 20. Nikki Krueger (3rd Place, Top 20 nationally) & Emerald Toth (12th Place) threw the shot put, and Kate Picanco (4th Place) competed in the pentathlon.

On the men's side, Lee Walburn and Josh Malone competed in the heptathlon. Lee placed third and moved into the Top 20 in the nation for NAIA. "Lee had PRs in 4 out of 7 events, which is very hard to do," said Coach Clark.

"I'm extremely proud of how of how we competed, and we're looking forward to the next meet," Coach Clark added.

The Saints will go to work for the next few weeks before returning to the track for the Dickinson State Hawk Classic on February 5-6.
