Carroll track signs 21 in 2020 class

HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College track and field team signed 21 student-athletes in its 2020 recruiting class, the team announced on Wednesday.

The list includes athletes from all over the region. Carroll signed athletes from Montana, Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Wyoming and California. What follows is a look at some of signees.

McKenna Bomengen comes to Carroll from Thermopolis, Wyoming, out of Hot Springs County High School. The distance runner holds personal records of 2:27 in the 800, 5:27 in the 1600, 12:32 in the 3200 and 20:00 in the 5K. 

"I chose Carroll because of its core values and all of its opportunities," Bomengen said. 

She is the daughter of Lisa and Travis Bomengen. She holds a 4.0 GPA and plans to focus on pre-medical studies at Carroll.

Olivia Weyer also comes to Carroll from Thermopolis, Wyoming, out of Hot Springs County High. Weyer holds PRs in the pole vault of 10'6, in the 400 with a time of 1:08, in the 800 with a time of 2:37; 1600 (6:08); and in the 3200 (12:43). She has been all-state and all-conference in pole vault and cross country, while also finishing regional pole vault runner up, state pole vault runner up and helping her team win a 2A cross country championship. 

"I chose Carroll College because of how spiritual it is and that everyone is really looking out for our success as students," Weyer said.

She is the daughter of Jason and Nichole Weyer. Her relatives Rachel and Reece Quade both are Fighting Saints. She holds a 3.98 GPA and plans to major in education.

Elias Hill is a signee from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Hill attended Lake City High. The jumper holds PRs in the long jump of 20'10.5", the triple jump of 40'5.5", the high jump of 5'8" and holds a 11.91 mark in the 100-meter dash. 

"I chose Carroll because it allowed me to pursue my dream of competing in track and field at the college level and is the best option for me to pursue a career in nursing," Hill said. 

Hill holds a 3.98 GPA. He is the son of Jennifer and James Hays.

Jonah Fisher signed with Carroll while prepping right down the road at Helena High. Fisher holds PRs in the 1600 of 4:40, a 2:05 time in the 800 and a 16:12 mark in the 5K. He's been honored as academic all-state in cross country and track and has earned all-state honors in cross country. 

"I really enjoyed the overall vibe of Carroll while I was there visiting," Fisher said. "All the students and staff I met were very friendly and welcoming." 

Fisher is the son of Klint and Jesika Fisher. He holds a 3.5 GPA and plans to major in civil engineering.

Kaiden Romney comes to Carroll out of Frenchtown, Montana. The runner holds PRs in the 400 of 51.1 and in the 800 of 2:00.5. He has been an all-conference performer in the 800, 400, 4x4, 4x100. He became an all-stater in the 4x400 and is a part of the team that holds Frenchtown's school record in the 4x400. 

"I chose Carroll because I want to stay in Montana to continue doing the things I enjoy in life while competing at the collegiate level," Romney said. "I was also drawn by the high standing academic reputation and valued education offered by Carroll."

He is the son of Clint Romney and Jami FitzGerald. He holds a 3.96 GPA and plans to major in biology.

Ashley Rose comes to Carroll out of Mead Senior High in Spokane, Washington. She holds PRs in the 3200 of 11:57 and in the 1600 in 5:35. She was part of the Greater Spokane League academic state championship in 2018 and qualified for the Pasco Invitational. Rose also is an accomplished half-marathon runner. 

"I chose Carroll College because of the family aspect," Rose said. "Everyone is so close and supportive and kind. For years I never imagined myself going anywhere but Carroll. I'm beyond excited that I'll not only be attending, but running at the college of my dreams." 

She is the daughter of Kim and Bill Rose. She holds a 3.88 GPA and plans to study health sciences.

James Normandeau is a distance runner out of Ronan, Montana. He holds a PR in the 800 of 1:58 and in the 1600 of 4:32. He's been an all-state runner in the 800 and twice in the 1600. He's been an all-conference performer in both events for three consecutive seasons. 

"Carroll resonates with a home-like atmosphere," Normandeau said. "I know it's a place I belong." 

He is the son of Michael and Annie Normandeau. He holds a 4.0 GPA and plans to study pre-med.

Emma Patek will join the Saints after prepping at Boise High School in Boise, Idaho. The runner holds PRs in the 200 (27.36), 400 (59.91), 800 (2:20.68) and 4x400 (3:59). She's been a part of three state championships and placed second overall in the 4x400 and fifth in the open 400 at the state championships. 

She is the daughter of Tom and Therese Patek. She holds a 3.5 GPA and plans to major in education.

Jocelynn Coley comes to Carroll after a standout career at Bozeman High in Bozeman, Montana. She helped Bozeman claim the 2019 girls state track championship and has been an academic all-state performer since 2017.

PRs: 55m (indoor) - 8.16, 60m (indoor) - 8.67, 100m (outdoor) - 13.65, 200m - 27.93,
400m - 66.14, 4x100m relay - 49.09, 4x400m relay, long jump - 15'6.5", triple jump - 33'10"

"I wanted somewhere that I could run and work on what I want as a career at the same time," Coley said. "As soon as I got to know Carroll better and see the community there, I was sold." 

She is the daughter of Lucy and Chad Coley. Her god sister, Danielle Olsen, is also a Saint. She holds a 3.87 GPA and is undecided on her major, but leaning toward health sciences.

Justin Neu comes to Carroll from Upland, California. He attended Damien High. He holds a PR in the pole vault of 14 feet. 

"I found Carroll College to be the right place for me because of its amazing community that shows interest in my ambitions as not only an athlete but also a student," Neu said. "I am confident my time at Carroll College will allow me to be a true student-athlete and achieve great things as a pole vaulter and as an engineer."

He is the son of Reid and Lori Neu. He plans to major in civil engineering and holds a weighted 4.05 GPA.

Connor O'Hara comes to Carroll from Ulm, Montana. He attended C.M. Russell High in Great Falls. He holds PRs in the 3200 of 9:48 and in the 5000 with a time of 15:54. He's twice been all-state in XC, placing 10th in 2018 and fifth in the 2019 at the state meet. He qualified for the state track meet in 2019. 

"I chose Carroll because the minute I stepped foot on campus it felt like home," O'Hara said. "Everyone was very supportive and welcoming. The school offers the degree I am looking for and I get to be a part of an awesome cross country and track team." 

O'Hara is the son of Todd and Becki McMickle. He plans to study secondary education and holds a 3.65 GPA.
