HELENA, Mont. -- The No. 17-ranked Carroll College Fighting Saints basketball team hosts No. 21 Rocky Mountain College on Tuesday in the PE Center.
It will be the third and final meeting of the regular season between the Saints and Battlin' Bears. The series is tied 1-1. The Saints won 56-54 in Billings on January 15 before falling back in Billings 43-39 on January 29.
For the Saints (16-8, 8-4), it's another opportunity to push for the top seeding in the Frontier Conference and to sharpen their tools ahead of tournament time. The Saints currently sit in a three-way tie with Lewis-Clark State and Montana Western for first in the Frontier.
"We believe we're still getting better even though it's February," Saints coach
Rachelle Sayers said. "We're going to continue to get better. We plan on playing late in March. The only way to do that is to continue to get better every day."
The Saints enter the game on a two-game winning streak after beating Montana Tech and No. 21 Lewis-Clark State College last week.
The defensively stout Saints are No. 4 in the NAIA in total rebound defense (30) and allow 57 points per game, the No. 8 mark in the NAIA.
Leading the Saints statistically are Dani Wagner (13.5 points per game),
Christine Denny (6.5 rebounds per game) and
Kamden Hilborn (3.3 assists per game).
Rocky (16-7, 7-5) also enters the game on a two-game winning streak. The Battlin' Bears also pack one of the best defenses in the NAIA, holding opponents to 27% from the three-point line (No. 10 NAIA) and 36% from the field (No. 11 NAIA). Rocky's Markaela Francis is averaging 16.1 points per game, which is No. 2 in the conference.
The game will serve as the Saints' Pink Game, sponsored by Saint Peter's Health. The game will be broadcast on SWX and Eleven Sports nationwide. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:35 p.m.
