HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College volleyball team heads to Great Falls for a pair of matches against Medicine Hat and Benedictine University on Friday at the Providence Invite.
The Saints play a scrimmage against North Idaho College on Thursday evening.
The matches this Friday will give the Saints another pair of road matches. By the end of this Great Falls swing, the Saints will have played 10 road matches since their last home game in the PE Center.
Each match has improved the Saints along the way.
"I think we've shown we can play with anybody," Saints coach Moe Boyle said. "To find the consistency on our side of the net and do what we're capable of doing regardless of what somebody else does… We're learning that."
With a large freshmen class and some upperclassmen also working into the rotation, the Saints have spent the early part of this season feeling themselves out. A 3-5 record doesn't show how competitive the Saints have been against Top 25 competition early on this season. Save two matches, the Saints have played exclusively in five-set affairs.
"On average we're pretty young on the court," Boyle said. "I believe we can play like we're more veterans. We have gained a ton of confidence in the last few years. I hope can continue to get confidence this weekend."
The goal will be to keep progressing, with the hopes of returning to the PE Center on Sept .19 as a more complete, confident team.
"We're not comfortable yet," Boyle said. "I'm excited about finding our way and getting more confident on the court. Having played a few weeks ago on this court and then not playing for another few weeks on our court, people are going to see a significantly different group and a much more seasoned group, much more confident group."
Friday's match against Medicine Hat begins at 11 a.m. Then, the Saints take on Benedictine University at 3 p.m.
