HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College indoor track and field team has one final chance to qualify for nationals this weekend in Bozeman at the Big Sky Tuner.
Head coach
Harry Clark will take a full squad to Bozeman on Friday and hope to add some qualifiers.Â
"It would be nice to get four more kids," Clark said. "That would be great."Â
The meet will feature fewer events, so the Saints won't have any relay teams running. Carroll will still look to add more individual qualifiers this weekend, during a season where the Saints have already qualified in eight events.Â
Brady Keaton hit the A-Standard in the pole vault with a jump of 4.76 meters, while Josh Malone (4,709 points) and Nolan Hofstee (4,440) both hit the requisite point total in the heptathlon as the men's qualifiers.Â
Shae Helterbran (3.66 meters), Kelsey Bassett (3.65 meters) and Mika Robinson (3.42 meters) qualified in the pole vault, hitting the A-Standard and B-Standard respectively, and Hannah Porch hit the A-Standard in the long jump with a leap of 5.7 meters and added a qualification in the 60-meter dash (7.84 seconds) to lead the women.Â
It's a high mark of individual qualifiers traditionally for Carroll.Â
"We've never had this many individuals qualify," Clark said. "We have four pole vaulters qualified."Â
A few Saints have nearly hit the qualifying marks leading up the nationals. Bryce Green was .08 seconds away from qualifying in the 60-meter hurdles. Noah Majerus has been close to qualifying to in the 800-meter.Â
The energy leading into the meet has been high, Clark said. It will also serve as the first chance for Clark to travel with his full squad to a meet. Clark had traveled with the multi-event kids for the majority of the season.Â
Carroll will compete against Big Sky Conference schools. Those in attendance aside from host Montana State will be Montana and Southern Utah, though both schools will be using the meet as a tune-up before the BSC championships.Â
The meet starts Friday at noon in Bozeman.Â
