No. 25 Carroll dominates San Diego Christian, 71-47

CHANDLER, Ariz. -- The No. 25-ranked Carroll College Fighting Saints took control early and never looked back, defeating San Diego Christian 71-47 on Thursday at the Frontier Classic at Chandler-Gilbert Community College.

"That's a nice win for us tonight," Saints coach Rachelle Sayers said. "We were able to get everybody in and get some quality minutes. They played quality minutes. Up and down affair. It's nice to be able to get some fresh bodies in there and save some legs for tomorrow."

The Saints (8-5) pressed the Hawks from the beginning, taking SDC out of rhythm, and then attacked the paint on the other end, as well as knocked down plenty of threes.

Dani Wagner, a night after tying her career-high with 28 points, led the game with 21 points, shooting 8-for-17 the field and 4-for-7 from the three-point line. The Saints found Wagner in space in the corner to shoot against the Hawks' zone and made them pay.

Maddie Geritz joined the double-figures party with 13 while Sienna Swannack added 10 points.

Carroll was able to execute its offense and find high quality looks most possessions. The Saints held a double-digit lead the majority of the game.

The win over SDC (4-8), pushed the Saints' record to 1-1 in the classic. Carroll finishes its week in the desert with another Top 25 matchup against No. 21 Thomas More. More is the reigning NCAA D-III champion, and defeated No. 24 Montana Western on Thursday.

"It's only their second game," Sayers said. "This will be our third game. They're NCAA D-III reigning champions. It's an exciting matchup for us. We've never seen them. As a staff we'll get to work and be prepared."

The game is set to tip off at 4 p.m.
