Carroll indoor track team heads to big meet in Idaho

HELENA, Mont. -- A contingent of 43 Carroll College Fighting Saints indoor track and field athletes will travel to Nampa, Idaho, to compete in the Bronco Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

"Our kids had two weeks to prepare for just this meet," Saints coach Harry Clark said. "This is the last big meet of the regular season. Our times should be really good this week. We're looking forward to having 12-15 more kids qualify this weekend."

Clark is expecting to see a big push from the Saints' 400 runners, pole vaulters and distance runners. While the Saints have one last chance meet on Feb. 15, the Big Sky Tuner, this weekend could present the deepest competition.

Carroll will be among a loaded field in Idaho. Athletes from Utah Valley, Pepperdine, College of Idaho, Eastern Oregon, MSU Billings, Northwest Nazarene, Northwest Christian, Utah State, Montana Western, Idaho State and Boise State are registered to compete this weekend.

Six Saints previously qualified for NAIA Indoor Nationals.

Brady Keaton hit the A-Standard in the pole vault with a jump of 4.76 meters, while Josh Malone (4,709 points) and Nolan Hofstee (4,440) both hit the requisite point total in the heptathlon as the men's qualifiers.

Shae Helterbran (3.66 meters) and Mika Robinson (3.42 meters) qualified in the pole vault, hitting the A-Standard and B-Standard respectively, and Hannah Porch hit the A-Standard in the long jump with a leap of 5.7 meters to lead the women.

The meet begins Friday at 1:30 p.m.

Notes: Coach Clark is being enshrined into the Montana State Athletics Hall of Fame in Bozeman this weekend.
