HELENA, Mont. -- After nearly a month without competition, the Carroll College indoor track and field team is back in action.
The Fighting Saints tracksters will split this weekend. Multi-event athletes will head to Pocatello, Idaho, to compete in the Stracy Dragilla Open while a larger contingent of the Saints will go to Bozeman for the MSU Open.
"Looking forward to seeing what the kids can do after the break," Saints coach
Harry Clark said. "They've had some extra time to work on event areas."
Clark will take six multi-event athletes to Pocatello, in what will be their last chance to qualify for nationals this season. Clark will take Tyler Bourn, Kylan Burch, Ember Drivdahl, Josie D'Agostino, Megan Pendergast and Reilly Rostad.
While in Pocatello, Carroll will see competition from Idaho State, Weber State, Southern Utah, Utah Valley, Montana Western and College of Southern Idaho.
In Bozeman, the Saints will compete against MSU, Montana, MSU Billings, Providence and Rocky Mountain. Assistant coaches
Jimmy Stanton,
Matt Larson, and
Bill Ballinger will take 24 Saints to MSU.
"Dedication level is really high to come back early from winter break," Clark said. "The reason a lot of them came back is to qualify."
It's the second meet of the season for the Saints, who scheduled a meet in early December before winter break.
This weekend's meets are one of the final three chances the Saints have to qualify for the NAIA Indoor National Championships in Brookings, South Dakota.
Eight Saints qualified back in December: Josh Malone and Nolan Hofstee in the heptathlon, Hannah Porch in the long jump and 60-meter dash, Shae Helterbran, Mika Robinson and Keaton Brady in the pole vault and Noah Majerus in the 800.
The multi-events will start at 10 a.m. in Pocatello, while the MSU Open is scheduled with field events at 3:30 and track events at 5 p.m.
