HELENA – Carroll College's women's soccer team took to the road to break through with their first conference win. 

The Saints (2-5-1, 1-0-1) defeated Corban 2-0 on Friday afternoon in Salem. 

Junior midfielder Kirsten Girolami scored in the 15th minute off a ball from Charly Clements, tucking a nice shot into the right corner of the net. 

Then, sophomore forward Lizzie Sheldon added the insurance strike in the 43rd minute when she received a ball from Brynn Walker and poked it in. 

"It was just a weird game," a pleased Saints coach Dave Thorvilson said. "I thought they would come out on fire in the second half. They came out with a little more spirit, but not a ton." 

Thorvilson noted both sides were low on energy throughout the game. That apparently favored the Saints. Though Corban outshot the Saints 22-6, very few of those looks were on frame and many were from very far outside the box. 

"We're starting to get some consistently with our goal scorers again," Thorvilson said. 

The Saints defense gets a clean sheet, including senior goal keeper Devan Murfitt, who made four saves on the day. 

Entering the game, Corban (5-3, 2-1) was the No. 2 team in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. The Saints, on the other hand, were riding some momentum after the strong finish to their previous game against Eastern Oregon. 

Carroll will look to continue that momentum on Saturday against Northwest Christian. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Eugene, Oregon.
