Carroll College women's soccer hits road to face Oregon tests

HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College women's soccer team travels to the west coast for its Oregon road swing this weekend.

The Saints take on Corban (5-2, 2-0) on Friday and Northwest Christian (2-4, 1-1) on Saturday.

Corban will give the Saints (1-5-1, 0-0-1) a stiff test to begin their trip. The Warriors started the season with two "home" wins. The Warriors are playing in a turf facility as a new turf field is built on Corban's campus.

That means the Saints will play in a new atmosphere on Friday.

"I think for us Corban is one of the most athletic teams," Saints coach Dave Thorvilson said. "They are pretty balanced offensively and defensively, coming into this week they're ranked second the conference. They've always been a difficult opponent for us."

Carroll comes into the game after drawing out Eastern Oregon 3-3.

The Saints play well in front of Carroll senior goalkeeper Devan Murfitt, who ranks 30th in the NAIA in total saves (41).

On Saturday, the Saints get Northwest Christian, who will give the Saints another tough test.

"They're always one of the most difficult teams to play in the conference," Thorvilson said. "Very physical. Have some very dangerous players. It's one of those teams that's easy to take foreganted. We've got to be ready."

Northwest Christian comes into the weekend after a split the weekend prior, with a loss ot Northwest (Washington) and a 2-0 win over Evergreen.

The Saints' first match against Corban kicks off at 1 p.m. on Friday.
