HELENA, Mont. - The No. 11 Carroll College women's basketball team hosts No. 18 Rocky Mountain College in the Frontier Conference Championship Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the PE Center.
The Saints are the regular-season champions while Rocky comes into the game as the third seed after upsetting second seed Montana Western in the conference semifinal in Dillon.
While Carroll holds the 2-1 season edge on the Battlin' Bears, all three games were blow-for-blow defensive battles, and two went into overtime.
The Saints opened the three-game series with a 58-56 overtime win in Helena. In game two Rocky evened the series with a 58-50 win in the PE Center. The Saints needed some late heroics in Billings, but Carroll pulled out the 57-54 victory in the rubber-match on Feb. 9.
Carroll had won seven of their last eight games and held off a furious comeback attempt by Lewis-Clark State in the other semifinal to earn the trip to the championship game.
Hannah Dean leads the Saints in every major statistical category and scores a game-high 12.1 points.
Bailey Pasta is second on the team with 10.3 points.
Carroll is the second-ranked team in NAIA DI in rebound defense and is No. 4 in scoring defense at 52.5 PPG.
There are only three teams in the NAIA that are statistically better than Carroll on the defensive end. Rocky Mountain is one of them. The Battlin' Bears are third in NAIA DI in scoring defense at 51.5 PPG.
Like the Saints, two players average double figures Mikayla Jones scores a team-high 12.6 PPG. Brooke Jones scores 10.9 PPG.
