HELENA, Mont. – With two games left in the regular season, the Carroll College Saints volleyball team is seeking to bump its conference seeding.
The Saints sit No. 3 after a 2-0 result this past weekend. The Saints claimed victories against MSU-Northern (3-0) and No. 20 Providence (3-1).
If the Saints go on the road and pick up wins against Montana Tech and Lewis-Clark State College – and get a little help from elsewhere around the Frontier – the Saints could climb to the No. 2 spot in the league.
"I think we have to take the momentum that we've had been building and especially the play and the momentum and energy we had on
Saturday and carry that forward," Saints coach Moe Boyle said.
First up is a Halloween night matchup in Butte against the Orediggers.
The Orediggers took a match from the Saints in the PE Center earlier this season.
Tech (14-14, 6-4 Frontier) split matches last weekend, earning a 3-0 sweep of Montana Western in Dillon before traveling to Billings and falling 3-1 to Rocky.
The Orediggers are led by Heather Thompson and her 1.1 blocks per game, which ranks No. 28 in the NAIA. Sabrina Hopcroft leads the Oredigger defense with 5.2 digs per game.
As an added bonus, the Saints get to familiarize themselves with the setting in Butte a week before the Frontier Conference tournament, an added benefit that isn't lost on Coach Boyle.
"It is nice to go there and play now and know we'll be there in another week for the conference tournament," Boyle said.
Then, the Saints travel down to Lewiston, Idaho on Saturday to face the Warriors (15-7, 5-5) in the regular season finale.
"Our focus is on us and what we need to do to continue getting better and play consistently at a high level from the start of the match," Boyle said.
The Saints' match against Montana Tech starts at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
