HELENA, Mont. – The second-ranked Carroll College men's basketball team fell to Rocky Mountain 59-54 Tuesday at the PE Center.
The Saints built a 15-77 lead with 10:50 left in the first half but struggled to maintain any offensive rhythm.
The Battlin' Bears battled back to tie the game at 24 at the half.
Rocky went on a 5-0 run to start the second half before Carroll responded and tied the game at 29. The two teams traded leads before Rocky went on a 13-1 run take a 54-44 lead with 2:23 remaining. Carrol rallied and cut the lead to 54-51 with 44 seconds on the clock.
The Bears went 4-5 from the line in the final 30 seconds to rebuild the lead.
Match Burnham was fouled with four seconds remaining and hit three foul shots to cut the final score to 59-54.
The Saints put up the worst shooting performance of the season, going 17-55 (30.9 percent) from the field and 4-20 (20 percent) from the three-point line. They also had 17 turnovers.
Ryan Imhoff scored a team-high 20 points, and
Match Burnham added 17.
Rocky was 22-54 (40.7 percent) from the field and 3-15 (20 percent) from the three-point line. Jared Samuelson scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Rocky. Satchel McDonald added 12 points.
The Saints play Montana Tech Thursday at the HPER Complex in Butte. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
