HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll College women's soccer team hosts the University of Calgary Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Nelson Stadium for the regular-season home opener and the first of three-consecutive home matches.
The Saints a 1-2 after a tough road trip to California where they fell to Menlo 1-0 and The Master's 2-1 but finished the trip strong with a 5-0 win over Mills College.
Calgary comes into the match after a 7-0 win against UGF Tuesday night in Great Falls. Carroll fell to the Dinos a season ago in Calgary on a late penalty kick. Head coach David Thorvilson knows that they bring a talented side to the pitch at Nelson Stadium.
"Calgary is a very physical, aggressive team," Thorvilson said. "They move the ball very well and their athleticism very similar to top-level teams that we will play this year. They do very well in the Canadian league."
The Saints are excited to open the home season and look forward to giving the home crowd a great show and build momentum toward the Cascade Conference season.
"We're excited to get another match in front of us after a tough road trip," Thorvilson said. "We are very excited to play in front of our home crowd, family and friends and hopefully come out on top."
The Saints host the University of Great Falls in a non-conference match on Sept. 5 and Whitworth College on Sept. 11, before beginning the Cascade slate on the road.
