HELENA, Mont. – For the second time this season, the Carroll College men's basketball makes the road trip north to face MSU-Northern Friday and the University of Great Falls Saturday in two of the final four games of the season.
The Saints are tied for first in the loss column after Montana Western handed Lewis-Clark their first home loss of the season. The loss for the Warriors means that the Saints are in the driver's seat for at least a share of the conference title. On the other hand the win by Western has the Dawgs breathing down the Saints neck with Carroll just two games clear of UMW with four games to play.
Carroll also needs to maintain some momentum as the No. 15 Saints hope to lock up a spot in the NAIA Tournament field.
The Saints are led by
Zach Taylor with 17 points and just under five assists per game and
Ryan Imhoff has a team-high 6.25 rebounds per contest.
The Lights present a tough challenge for Carroll, MSUN is 16-11 on the season after topping UGF Thursday in Havre 73-65. The win halts a three-game slide for the Lights who sit in fourth place in the conference standings at 5-10 in Frontier play.
Northern's leading scorer Warren Edmondson scores an average of 12.2 points per game for the Lights who average just less than 75 points per game. David Straughter leads Northern with 5.74 rebounds per game.
The Saints won both previous match ups, earning a hard-fought 72-69 win over Northern in in Havre before topping the Lights 83-77 in Helena.
Saturday, the Saints face an Argo team that is currently on the outside looking in for a conference tournament bid. UGF is tied with Montana Tech with a 3-12 record but lost both match ups to the Diggers.
The Argos held conference opponents to just 61.79 points per game but leading scorer Sigman Farmer scores just 8.91 points per game. He also leads the team with 6.86 rebounds per game.
The Saints came from behind to win the first meeting 47-44 in Great Falls and rolled to a 78-56 win over the Argos in Helena.
