Big Third Quarter Lifts Carroll Men's Basketball to 93-67 WIn

LETHBRIDGE, Alberta – The Carroll College Fighting Saints outscored Lethbridge by 27 points in the third quarter and held on to win 93-67 in men's basketball action in Southern Alberta Saturday.

Lethbridge got on the scoreboard first with a pair of free throws just 14 seconds into the game and held on to the lead for the entire first half.

With 6:03 left in the second quarter, the Pronghorns hit a 3-pointer to go up 36-24 but the Saints began to chip away at the lead and cut it to 40-38 at the break.

The third quarter would be all Carroll. The Saints jumped out an 8-0 run to get it going and continued to build throughout, closing out the frame with a 74-49 lead.

The fourth quarter was a back and forth battle but the cushion would be more than enough for the Saints as Carroll cruised to the 26-point win.

"We grappled through the first half, and went into the locker room down two," Cunningham said. "The Fighting Saints came out with tremendous vim and vigor in the third quarter, winning the frame by 27 points. I'm rather impressed with fellas' ability to come to Canada and win two."

Five Saints scored in double-figures with Imhoff again leading the way with 17 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Zach Taylor had 15 points, Ife Kalejaiye notched 12, Oliver scored 11 and freshman Steven Helm score 10.

The Saints were 31-66 (47 percent) from the field while holding the Pronghorns to 24-61 (39.3 percent). Carroll outrebounded Lethbridge 40-34 and notched 30 assists on 31 made shots. The Saints also forced Lethbridge into 26 turnovers.

The win comes on the heels of Carroll's 74-68 win over the University of Alberta Friday evening, moving Carroll to 2-0 on the season.

The Saints continue non-conference play Wednesday in a road match at MSU Billings at 7:30 p.m.
