STANFORD, Calif. – Pac-12 power Stanford jumped out to a 24-3 lead and never looked back as they rolled to an 83-38 win over Carroll College in men's basketball action Sunday evening at Maples, Pavilion.
The Saints, again without injured honorable mention All-American
Zach Taylor, struggled to find any offensive rhythm against the physically dominant opponent. Carroll shot just 14 of 57 (24.6 percent) from the field and tallied just six assists on the game.
Carroll didn't have a scorer in double figures.
Sam McMahon and
Lorel Johnson each tallied eight points to lead the way.
Stanford had four scorers in double figures led by Dorian Pickens with 18 points. The Cardinal shot 49.2 percent from the field and outrebounded the Saints 49-27. Stanford notched eight blocks on the night including four from Josh Sharma.
"It was an honor to play at a world-renowned academic and athletic university," head coach
Carson Cunningham said. "Stanford sets such a great standard and it was a fantastic opportunity to be able to test ourselves against that standard. Clearly, we didn't play sharply. But there are a lot of lessons there for us to draw upon in the coming days, if we're willing to do so. We are looking forward to playing back at the PE Center versus MSU Billings on January 3."
The Saints have two final non-conference games scheduled on Sunday, Jan. 3, against MSU Billings and Monday, Jan. 4, against Yellowstone College. The game against MSUB is a make-up after winter driving conditions forced the cancelation of the game, originally slated for Dec. 16.
