Saints Topple Dinos 69-54

HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll College men's basketball team closed out non-conference play with a 69-54 home win over the University of Calgary. The Saints are now 11-3 on the season matching their win total of the last two seasons combined.

Freshman forward Oliver Carr led the way with 18 points, Zach Taylor added 15 points and Ryan Imhoff added 10.

The Saints took a 5-0 lead in the first half but the Dinos answered with an 8-0 run to take the only lead of the game. Carroll answered back with and took the 9-8 lead on a Jake Hollifield jumper with 15:38 left in the first half.

The Saints built a 40-28 lead at the half.

In the second half Carroll built a 62-42 advantage with 3:35 left in the game before Calgary cut the Saints advantage to 69-54 at the final buzzer.

Carr has now scored in double-digits in 10 of the Saints' 14 games. He is also in the top 20 in the nation for field goal percentage.

"He is playing great. He is shooting the ball very well but he is also starting to pass the ball out of the double team and find the open man," head coach Carson Cunningham said. "He is a really good basketball player, he is a really hard worker and he is on the Dean's list. He is huge for what we are doing."

The Saints begin the Frontier Conference slate Thursday at Westminster. The Griffins were ranked first in the preseason standings but began the season losing five of their first six games. Westminster has put together a five game win streak over the last five games.

"We're excited but we know that the Frontier Conference is loaded," Cunningham said. "It is super deep this year in particular. Every night is going to be a battle."

The Saints battle the Griffins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
