WESTVILLE, Ind. – The Carroll College Saints fell behind 34-16 midway through the first half but a 21-3 run in the first half and a 21-3 run in the second half spurred the Saints to a 76-65 road win over Purdue North Central Saturday evening.
Oliver Carr led the Saints with 26 points and five rebounds and Zach Taylor added 15 points and four assists.
"Oliver was extremely efficient," Head coach Carson Cunningham said. "He made some tremendous moves down in the low block. He was like Manny Pacquiao down there, he can hit your midsection and twist and turn and get the ball in the hoop. He just played a whale of a ball game. "
The Panthers jumped out on the Saints early in their first home game of the season. They built a 34-16 lead just before the midway point in the first half before the Saints got rolling.
Carroll then answered with a 21-3 run, beginning with a bucket and free throw from Taylor.
"Tayler handled the ball really well," Cunningham said. "He shot really well but he received a lot of attention and he made some big dishes and got to the line when he attacked."
The Saints tied the game at 37 with 2:05 to play in the first half but the Panthers took a 42-39 lead into the break.
"We need to figure out how to get better at starting strong on the road," Cunningham said. "Thankfully, we found some things that worked for us on offense and tweaked our defense a little to turn an 18-point deficit into an 11 point win."
PNC was able to again build a lead in the second half, they led 62-55 with 8:35 left in the game but the Saints closed out the game with a 21-3 run, including 15-straight to earn the victory.
The Saints are now 5-1 on the season and close out a three-game swing in Indiana with Indiana University Northwest Sunday at 2:30 p.m. MST.
