DILLON, Mont. – The 10th ranked Montana-Western Bulldogs started the second half on an 11-2 run to start the second half of Saturday evening's game against Carroll College. The burst gave UMW a 54-38 lead that the Saints could not overcome en route to a 77-66 Western victory.
Zach Taylor led the Saints with 18 points and Oliver Carr and Ryan Imhoff tallied 12 each for the Saints.
"That was a rather frustrating game," head coach Carson Cunningham said. "We just didn't play well enough to win, on defense in particular. I have to find a way to get us better on defense. And we have to tip our cap to Western. They've won 12 in a row for a reason. They're good."
Four Bulldogs scored in the double-digits led by Quinn Smith with 20 points and 10 rebounds. The Bulldogs were 26-of-57 (45.6 percent) from the field.
"Somehow we've got to find a way to help our young guys mature defensively," Cunningham said. "That's our challenge right now. Hopefully we have a rugged, active week of practice & we play better 'D' the next time out."
The Saints fall to 12-4 on the season and 1-1 in Frontier Conference play.
Carroll hosts MSU-Northern Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the PE Center. The Skylights are 11-6 and 0-2 in conference play.
