Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | By Jerek Wolcott, Carroll College Sports Information

Women's basketball fall to D-II Saint Martin's

LACEY, Wash. – Three games in a row against a NCAA D-II or D-I opponent and each game followed the same script. In each of the games it didn't end well for Carroll College women's basketball team as they fell on the road to the Saint Martin's (Wash.) 58-66  Thursday.

The Saints built a 19-13 lead with 10:54 left in the first half on 3-pointer by Mika Robinson and held on an advantage for most of the half before Saint Martin's tied the game at 33-33 with just over minute left. That score would hold to the half.

Saint Martin's took a five-point lead with 16:44 left in the game before the Saints battled back to tie the game at 41 with 14:17 left.

Again Saint Martin's took the lead but the Carroll wouldn't be able to answer. SMU built a lead to nine points with 4:10 remaining. Carroll cut it to six with 32 second remaining but wouldn't get any closer as Saint AMrtin's score with three-seconds remaining to earn the 66-58 win.

"We played really hard against a really good team," head coach Rachelle Sayers said. "They returned four starters from an 18-10 team a year ago and I thought we competed on every possession."

Bailey Snelling led the Saints with 17 points and Cassidy Hashley tallied 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

"I am proud of our girl's fight," Sayers aid. "We are competing against very good teams and we are getting better. We will be where we need to be when it really counts."

The Saints re now 1-2 on the season and travel to play Willamette at 7 p.m. MST Saturday.
