HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Women's Soccer team wrapped up their non-conference slate with their first win of the young season, topping NCAA Division III Whitworth (Wash.) on Sunday morning at Nelson Stadium.

The Fighting Saints (1-2-2) came into Sunday morning's tilt with the Pirates (1-1) looking to build a little momentum with CCC conference play on the horizon later this week. After controlling the action throughout, they finally found their breakthrough in the 69th minute off the foot of Rachel McAllister (Brier, Wash. / JR).

McAllister, who had multiple opportunities turned away earlier in the match, managed to push past Whitworth's back line, catching up to a beautifully placed pass from Carmen Anderson (Missoula, Mont. / JR). Gathering control near the top of the box, McAllister put a shot to the far post that would beat the keeper and prove to be the game's only goal.

While the scoreboard might not have reflected it, Carroll controlled the match from start to finish. The Saints spent much of the morning in the attacking third, out-shooting the Pirates 23-3 on the day. Carroll managed 10 shots on net, including a near second goal off the crossbar by Bailey Koster (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho / FR) in the second half.

The Saints were sound defensively all match, and the few times that the Pirates were able to put up a shot, All-Conference goalkeeper Maria Ackerman (Billings, Mont. / SR) was ready and waiting. Ackerman didn't face much action, but tallied a pair of saves - including one in the 86th minute that was Whitworth's best look of the match.

Carroll begins conference play on Thursday, opening up league play with a 5 p.m. showdown with Rocky Mountain College on Valley Bank Field at Nelson Stadium.
