Game Recap: Softball |

Saints Drop Midweek Doubleheader at Providence

GREAT FALLS, Mont. - The Carroll College Softball team came up short in both ends of a road doubleheader Tuesday in Great Falls, falling 11-2 in five innings in Game 1 before dropping an 18-16 slugfest in Game 2 against Providence.

GAME ONE: Providence 11 - Carroll 2 (5 Innings)

The opener turned in the bottom of the third. After the Fighting Saints erased an early two-run deficit, Providence answered immediately and then broke the game open with a six-run fifth inning. Erin Bishop gave Providence its first lead with a two-run homer in the first, but Carroll responded in the top of the third when Brooke Thompson (Billings, Mont. / JR) singled home Brynn Notbohm (Miles City, Mont. / SO) and Kati Slater (Yamhill, Ore. / SR) later scored to tie it at 2-2.

The tie did not last long. Kasidy Yeoman helped spark the Argo rally, and Tehneson Ehnes delivered a key hit with a run-scoring double that put Providence back in front. Providence added two more runs in the fourth and then ended the game early with its decisive fifth inning.

Providence finished with 13 hits in Game 1 and got a big day from Ehnes, who went 3 for 3 with six RBIs.

Carroll managed five hits, with Slater recording two and scoring once. Thompson supplied the Saints' lone RBI.

GAME TWO: Providence 18 - Carroll 16

Game 2 took a much different shape, with the Fighting Saints surging ahead early before Providence answered over the middle innings.

Carroll erupted for eight runs in the first inning, using a string of hits and walks to seize immediate control. Providence trimmed the deficit to 8-2 in the bottom half, then scored six times in the second to pull even at 8-8. From there, the game kept swinging. A three-RBI double in the fourth helped Providence move in front 12-8, and the Argos kept producing enough offense to stay ahead despite repeated Carroll rallies.

The Fighting Saints continued to pressure late. Carroll scored three times in the fifth, keyed by run-scoring hits from Madison Walker (Ridgefield, Wash. / JR) and Thompson, then added two more in the sixth. Providence answered with a four-run sixth inning to build an 18-13 lead, a margin that proved just enough. Carroll made one last push in the seventh, highlighted by Thompson's home run to center, but Providence held on to complete the sweep.

The nightcap featured 33 combined runs and 33 combined hits. Providence totaled 17 hits, while Carroll matched the offensive pace for long stretches with 16 hits. Kati Slater had three hits and three RBIs, while Thompson finished with three hits, a homer and two RBIs.

The Saints will now head to North Dakota this weekend, as they take on Mayville State in the final series of the 2026 regular season on Sunday and Monday.
