GREAT FALLS, Mont. - The (RV) Carroll Women's Basketball team completed another successful weekend sweep, knocking-off Providence 52-41 at the McLaughlin Center on Saturday evening in the first of two meetings on the season.
Following a pair of losses at the McLaughlin Center last season, the Fighting Saints (13-6, 11-2) got a bit of revenge on Saturday, with a stifling defensive effort against the Argonauts.
Throughout the course of the season, the first quarter has not always been kind to Carroll. Saturday, however, it was Carroll who knocked down shots early in the game to grab an early lead.
Willa Albrecht (Billings, Mont. / R-SR) scored six quick points, helping the Saints open the game on an 11-6 run over the first five minutes. A last second bank-shot three from the Argos trimmed the Carroll lead at the end of the frame, and the Saints carried a 15-14 lead into the second.
After a fast-paced first quarter, both offenses slowed in the second frame.
Kenzie Allen (Grantsville, Utah / JR) continued her strong weekend, scoring five of the Saints'Â eight points in the quarter, while the Carroll defense limited UP to just six points on 21 percent shooting to extend the lead to three at the break, 23-20.
The best third quarter team in the country showed their mettle again on Saturday, forcing five Argo turnovers while finding their groove on the offensive end to blow the game open.
Jillian Kanduch (Miles City, Mont. / FR) scored seven points and had a pair of assists, while also coming away with two steals in the frame to extend the Carroll lead to double digits heading into the fourth.
The Carroll defense did their part in keeping the Argos at bay over the final 10 minutes, while offensively the Saints went 9-11 from the stripe to close out the first Carroll win in Great Falls since January 2024.
Allen paced the Saints in scoring for the second-straight night, finishing with 15 points. Albrecht and Kanduch were the the only other Saints to score in double figures, both finishing their evenings with 12 points each.Â
Carroll held Providence to just 34 percent from the floor (18-52) and a 3-12 effort from beyond the arc.
The Saints remain tied atop the Frontier standings, now having played every conference opponent at least once. Next Friday, Carroll will wrap up their season series with travel partner Rocky Mountain College at 5 p.m. at the PE Center in their lone matchup of the week.
