Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Albrecht Scores Career-Best 35 Points in Comeback Win

HELENA, Mont. - Just over a week removed from a last-second game-winning shot, Willa Albrecht poured in a career-high 35 points to help the No. 24-ranked Carroll Women's Basketball team complete a 68-59 come-from-behind win over Valley City State at the CC PE Center on Saturday evening.

The Fighting Saints (11-6, 9-2) once again had to dig themselves out of an early hole, but a historic effort from the reigning Frontier Conference Offensive Player of the Week kept their six-game conference win-streak intact.

Albrecht's (Billings, Mont. / R-SR) 35-point effort is the second-most single-game individual points scored in the program's 50-plus year history. She came up one-point shy of tying the school record, held by Angie Herr (36 points, Feb. 14, 1998 at MSU-N), but ascended to No. 20 in program history for career points (1079).

Carroll needed every bit of the offensive explosion from the redshirt-senior, as a poor effort in the first quarter saw them trail 8-12 following a 33 percent shooting frame.

Albrecht spearheaded the comeback in the second quarter, going 5-9 from the floor for 12 points in the frame to help give the Saints a 28-26 lead after trailing by as much as 11 early in the second.

The slim Carroll lead evaporated early in the third, with the Vikings holding a 37-35 lead at the four minute mark of the frame. Albrecht again turned it on, and from that point forward Carroll never trailed.

Albrecht scored 21 second half points, going 6-9 from the floor in the frame, 9-10 at the stripe, while adding five total rebounds and three steals on the defensive end to round out the impressive all-around performance.

Kenzie Allen (Grantsville, Utah / JR) added nine points and four assists, while coming away with her second-straight four-steal performance of the weekend.

Gracie Millimen (Manhattan, Mont. / R-FR) was a perfect 4-4 from the floor, scoring eight important points off the bench in her efficient 13 minutes of action.

The Saints will turn their attention towards a road trip to traditional Frontier foes MSU-Northern and Providence next weekend, wrapping up the first lap of the 22-game Frontier slate.
