Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

(RV) Carroll Men Drop First game of Arizona Swing

MESA, Ariz. - Following the same path as their counterparts on the Women's side, the Carroll Men headed to the sunny desert skies of Arizona for a pair of games this weekend. Saturday's late night matchup daw the reigning CCC Champs fall 3-2 against a good Benedictine-Mesa side a non-conference match.

The Fighting Saints (1-1-1) are quickly learning the reaching the top is one thing, but staying at the top is a whole different story. (RV) Carroll fell 2-3 against the Eagles, but still have plenty to be proud of and plenty to learn from the early season loss.

Just three minutes into the game, newcomer Pedro Teixeira (Braga, Portugal / R-JR) netted the first goal of the evening to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. For the next 37 minutes, the Saints felt pretty good until a response from the Eagles at the end of the frame. Jay Fuentes would beat Carroll keeper Juan Muniz Navarrete (Hermiston, Ore. / GR) for the first time the season, knotting things up at 1-1.

Early in half two, local product Josiah Bibeau (Helena, Mont. / SO) would put Carroll back in the lead, scoring off an assist from Rivera. The go-ahead goal was the first of Bibeau's Carroll career, putting the Saints in front 2-1.

Benedictine-Mesa tied the game up in the 41' minute, as an own goal would cost Carroll dearly with just minutes remaining in the frame.

The Eagles got their first lead of the contest in the 60' minute, as Wiktor Blacowicz would put the eventual game-winner past Muniz Nvarrete.

In an abnormal effort, the Saints were heavily out-shot in the match, with Benedictine-Mesa controlling the game with 21 shots to Carroll's 10.

Up next, a trip to Prescott, Ariz. tomorrow evening, as Carroll looks to get back to their winning ways against Embry-Riddle tomorrow night.
