OLYMPIA, Wash. - The Carroll Women's Soccer team bounced back from a narrow defeat in their CCC opener last week with a five goal outburst on Friday afternoon, racing past Evergreen State 5-2 at Geoduck Pitch.
Although the Fighting Saints (3-1-2, 1-1) aren't at the friendly confines of Nelson Stadium for Homecoming, they did their part in keeping the school-wide hot streak rolling with their convincing win over the Geoducks.
After scoring both goals in the 80th minute or later in last week's loss at Rocky, Carroll wasted little time in getting things going on Friday.
Hayley Smith (Woods Cross, Utah / JR) scored the game's first goal in the 13th minute, giving the Saints an early lead that would not be surrendered on a header fromÂ
Aryana Jones (Lathrop, Calif. / SR).
Rachel McAllister (Brier, Wash. / SO) doubled the Carroll lead in the 34th minute, blasting a goal from 12-yards out off an assist by
Myah Rietze (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho / SR) to give the Saints a 2-0 lead at the break
McAllister wasn't finished, however, as she scored her second goal of the afternoon on a penalty kick in the 60th minute to go up 3-0.
Just minutes later, Jones would add to her point total on the afternoon, scoring Carroll's fourth goal of the afternoon off an assist from
Ella Kuenzli (Bigfork, Mont. / SR).Â
Evergreen State finally got on the board in the 74th minute, netting with a penalty kick of their own to cut into the lead at 4-1.
Deanna Lord (Cave Creek, Ariz. / SR)Â put the game well out of reach in the 87th minute on a 22-yard shot to give the Saints a commanding 5-1 lead, but a Geoduck goal just one minute later would make the final score 5-2.
Carroll heavily outshot the Geoducks, finishing with a 22-4 advantage in total shots and a 13-2 margin in shots on goal.Â
The Saints will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, taking on Northwest at 1:30 p.m. before finally hosting a game in Helena for the first time in over a month later next week.
