Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

(RV) Saints Drop Two on Second Day of Hampton Inn Classic

SALEM, Ore. - A pair of matches against two of the Cascade Collegiate Conference's best got away from the Carroll College Volleyball team on Saturday, as they fell in straight sets to both (RV) Bushnell and No. 3 Corban to wrap up play at the Hampton Inn Classic.

While the fight was there, the desired outcome was not for the (RV) Fighting Saints (5-3) in either of their two Saturday matches against the Beacons and Warriors.

GAME ONE: (RV) Bushnell - 3, (RV) Carroll - 0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-20)
For the first time this season, no Saint was able to post double-digit kills, as Bushnell would ride an 11-6 advantage in blocks and a 40-31 advantage in team kills to a three-set sweep.

The Saints made a strong comeback effort in the game's opening set, but saw their rally come up short in a 25-23 loss.

Bushnell raced out to a 19-7 lead in the second frame, cruising to a 25-14 win, followed by a 25-20 win in the third set with an ace from Amyah Semau to put a bow on the sweep.

Elizabeth Heuiser (Helena, Mont. / R-SR) and McKaila Balcom (Pasco, Wash. / JR) led the Saints with seven kills apiece in the loss.

Jansyn Carrizales (Sunnyside, Wash. / JR) posted a team-high 18 assists, while Sofia Kimmel (Bozeman, Mont. / FR) finished with 12 digs.

GAME TWO: No. 3 Corban - 3, (RV) Carroll - 0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-18)
The final match of the weekend came against the Saints' top-ranked opponent of the season thus far, and a lack of offensive production doomed Carroll in the three-set loss.

Carroll hit just .102 as a team in the second match, unable to string together points. While Corban finished with 19 more kills than the Saints (45-26), one bright spot for Carroll was their 8-4 advantage in blocks.

Birdie Heuiser (Helena, Mont. / FR) tied for the team lead with six kills, matching her sister Elizabeth, who added a game-high 7.0 blocks as well.

The Saints won't have time to dwell on the losses, as Frontier Conference play officially kicks off this week in Helena.

Carroll will host Rocky Mountain College, No. 10 Providence, and MSU-Northern on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday at the PE Center as they look to begin their quest for a return to the top of the Frontier mountaintop.
