SURPRISE, Ariz. - Forward Delaney Moczan picked up right where she left off in 2024, netting the first goal of the 2025 season as the Carroll Women's Soccer team picked up a shutout 3-0 victory over Ottawa (Ariz.) in their season opener on Saturday.

After being snubbed of a CCC Offensive Player of the Year award in 2024, Delaney Moczan (Las Vegas, Nev. / JR) wasted little time in flexing her goal-scoring prowess on Saturday. The junior striker provided what would ultimately be the game-winning goal in the 35', helping set the tone for the big first game win.

"I thought we played well in difficult conditions." said Head Coach David Thorvilson "Kickoff temperature was 101 today, and I thought both teams were struggling with it a little bit."

The heat did little to bother Arizona native Deanna Lord (Cave Creek, Ariz. / SR), who made her first collegiate start in her home state in front of plenty of friends and family. Lord impressed, finishing with both a goal and assist to help seal the victory in the second half.  

Lord's goal came in the 55', doubling the Carroll advantage. Within minutes, she would add her third point of the afternoon, setting up Ella Kuenzli (Bigfork, Mont. / SR) for the game-sealing goal.

"It was great to see three different goal scorers today, and the ability to move the ball around." said Thorvilson after the win "Having so many players get minutes in the first game of the season is always exciting, and to get the W means a lot to our group with what we put into the preseason work this Fall."

Sunday will be a day of rest for the Saints, who will play one more match on Monday morning before returning to Helena. Carroll will square off with Arizona Christian at 9 a.m. on Monday morning, looking to end the weekend trip to the desert on a high note.
