LIMA, Ohio - Sunday afternoon's neutral site contest between (RV) Carroll and Aquinas (Mich.) did little to decide who wears the Saints moniker best, as the pair played to a 0-0 draw in the final game of the UNOH Soccer Showcase.
The Saints (of the Fighting variety) from Helena did all they could to find a go-ahead goal in the nil-nil draw, but were forced to end the weekend unbeaten, but no longer untied.
Carroll controlled the pace of the game throughout, with the majority of action played on the Aquinas half of the pitch.
Scoring opportunities were slim for both sides, however Carroll managed to put up more total shots (CC-10, AQ-8) and shots on goal (CC-4, AQ-1) over the course of the 90 minutes.
A persistent Carroll attack nearly proved fruitful in the 86', as a corner kick led to a header in the box that would rattle off of the left post before falling harmlessly away.
Juan Muniz Navarrete (Hermiston, Ore. / GR) had another quiet, yet effective day in the net, ho-humming his way to another clean sheet.
Pedro Tiexiera (Braga, Portugal / JR),
Alfie Snow (Middlesbrough, England / SR), and
Sean Balen (Mukilteo, Wash. / JR) each registered two shots, while Balen was the only Saint with multiple shots on goal.
Carroll will return home to Helena and have a weekend to work things out before their action, a pair of games in Arizona against Benedictine-Mesa and Embry-Riddle.
