Game Recap: Softball |

Saints Fall in Pair at No. 2 Oregon Tech

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The Carroll College Softball team dropped their first two games of their four-game series at No. 2 Oregon Tech on Thursday afternoon, falling 10-2 and 8-0 at John & Lois Stilwell Stadium.

The Fighting Saints (15-19, 10-11) struggled at the plate in a pair of run-rule losses to the nation's No. 2 team, the Owls (36-6, 19-4) on a sunny afternoon at Stilwell Stadium.

GAME ONE: Carroll - 2, Oregon Tech - 10 (Six Innings)

The Saints jumped out to an early lead in the first game of the afternoon, as Kenna Thomas (Belgrade, Mont. / SR) knocked an RBI double into the outfield to make good on Liz Ybarra's (Fullerton, Calif. / SR) leadoff single to give Carroll a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

Thomas, who's been swinging the bat well all season long, came up with another RBI in her second plate appearance of the day in the top of the third, driving in Brynn Notbohm (Miles City, Mont. / FR), but the Saints would fail to record a hit over the final three frames in the loss.

The Owls dotted the scoreboard throughout the six-inning game, scoring three runs in the second and fourth innings, en route to the run-rule win.

Oregon Tech finished the afternoon with 16 hits, as Nita Cook, Marla Goodspeed, and Puakea Milbourne each finished with three hits in the win. Milbourne and Cook each posted two RBI's, while five other Owls recorded at least one RBI in the win.

Kacie Schmidt improved to 19-3 on the season, going all six innings allowing just four hits with four strikeouts.

GAME TWO: Carroll - 0, Oregon Tech - 8 (Five Innings)

The second game of the day proved to be even more difficult for the Carroll batters, as Jenna Gorden nearly tossed a no-hitter in the second run-rule win of the series.

The Owls raced out to an early 5-0 lead after two innings, with Milbourne adding another two RBI to her tally, and Addison Kachnik adding another pair of runs with a triple.

It wasn't until the fifth frame that a Saint would finally record a base-hit. Sammie Labrum (Kalispell, Mont. / JR) broke-up Gorden's no-hit bid in the top half of the fifth with a single, but that would be the lone Carroll hit in game two.

Jayce Seavart provided three RBI in the third and fourth innings to lead the Owls and cap the afternoon sweep.

The teams will return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m., as the Saints look to grab a win in the final conference game of the series.
