Game Recap: Softball |

Saints Swept by No. 2-Ranked Owls

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The Carroll College Softball teams went down in games three and four of their series with No. 2 Oregon Tech on Friday afternoon at John & Lois Stilwell Stadium.

The Fighting Saints (15-21, 10-12) battled in the third, and final, game of the CCC series against the No. 2-ranked Owls (38-6, 20-4) before falling in a lopsided non-conference final game of the series on Friday.

GAME ONE: Carroll - 1, No. 2 Oregon Tech - 2

Abbie Amend (Spokane, Wash. / JR) got the nod in the circle for the third game of the series, and held a high-powered Oregon Tech lineup to just two runs. Amend was outstanding in her complete game effort, holding the Owls scoreless through three.

Carroll broke the scoreless tie in the top half of the fourth, as Alyssa Lybbert (Las Vegas, Nev. / SR) drove in Kenna Thomas (Belgrade, Mont. / SR), who led-off the frame with a single, putting the Saints in front 1-0.

A Jayce Seavert double in the bottom of the fourth led to an RBI single from Gina Allen just two batters later, tying the game up at 1-1 heading into the fifth. Nita Cook provided the eventual game-winner in the fifth, as her RBI single would score Malia Mick from second.

Both teams finished with seven hits in the opener, as Amend and OIT's Kacie Schmidt dueled it out in a pitching showcase.

Liz Ybarra (Fullerton, Calif. / SR) led the Saints with a 2-4 effort at the plate, while both Allen and Cook finished with two hits for the Owls in the win.

GAME TWO: Carroll - 0, No. 2 Oregon Tech - 17 (Five Innings)

The NAIA's No.2-ranked team flexed their muscle in the non-conference fourth game of the series, exploding for 17 runs in a blowout series finale victory.

The Owls broke the game open right from the get-go, hanging 15 runs on the Saints in an opening frame in which they batted around the order twice.

The lone highlight of the game for the Saints was a Kate Kofstad (Silverton, Ore. / FR) triple down the right field line in the top of the third inning.

In total, Oregon Tech finished with 17 runs on 17 hits in the one-sided affair.

The Saints won't have time to dwell on the crooked-number loss, as they will have their third doubleheader in as many days tomorrow afternoon. Carroll will take on British Columbia in a make-up doubleheader in Spokane, Wash. tomorrow at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., in a crucial late-season pair of games with both teams battling for the fifth-seed in the upcoming CCC Championship.
