NORTH PLAINS, Ore. - The Carroll College Golf teams got their spring play started with the first of two rounds at the Pacific Invitational, hosted by Pacific University on the Ghost Creek course at Pumpkin Ridge.
The Fighting Saints have some work to heading into Sunday's final round on both sides of the action, as the Carroll Men sit in 10th-place, and the Women in 7th after 18 holes.
Tanner Cromwell (Anaconda, Mont. / FR) shot the lowest round of the day for the Carroll Men, pacing the team with an 81 (+10).
JT Slivinski (Montpelier, Idaho / SO) is one shot back of him, posting an 82 (+11), followed by
Jackson Hammond (Scottsdale, Ariz. / SO) with an 85. Both
TJ Fierling (North Bend, Wash. / SO) and
Hudson Reinke (Filer, Idaho / FR) shot 88 to round out the Carroll scoring.
The Men sit at +52 as a team, trailing Lewis & Clark by 12 strokes heading into the final round. Rocky leads the event, with a 286 (+2) finish as a team in round one.
On the Women's side of the action,
Celi Chapman (Montana City, Mont. / SO) led the Saints with a nine-over round of 80, highlighted by birdies on holes one and eight.
Ellie Stastny (Murtaugh, Idaho / FR) and
Stella Claridge (Kalispell, Mont. / JR) each shot 92 (+21), with
Lauren Mayala (Billings, Mont. / FR) rounding out the Carroll four with a round of 95 (+24).
The Saints (+75) trail Puget Sound (NCAA DIII) by just three strokes (+72), and Bushnell by six strokes (+69) heading into the final round. Rocky leads the event, posing a 317 total (+33) as a team.
The teams will return to the course tomorrow at 10 a.m. for final round play at Ghost Creek.
