Carroll Women Fourth, Men Fifth After Day One at CC Classic

10/05/26 | 9:37 PM

HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll Golf teams wrapped up day one play at their home tournament, the Carroll College Classic on Monday at Bill Roberts Golf Course.

Playing their first home event in over two years, the Fighting Saints have their sights on climbing the leaderboards on Tuesday's final round.

The Carroll Women got off to a great start in round one on Monday, but faltered a bit down the stretch to slide back into fourth entering the final round.

Freshman Jordan Nielsen (Billings, Mont.) fired the round of the day for the Saints. The Billings Central-product opened the tournament with a six-over round of 78, sitting just outside the Top-10 at No. 12. One shot back at 79, Addison Slivinski (Montpelier, Idaho / SO) carded her first sub-80 round in competition, and enters day two in a tie for 14th. Ellie Stastny (Murtaugh, Idaho / JR) is in a tie for 16th following her opening round 80, while Alli Stastny (Murtaugh, Idaho / JR) is one off her pace with a first round 81. Maddy Olson (Spokane, Wash. / SR) had one of the brigthest moments of day one, carding an eagle on the par-five ninth-hole.

Rocky Mountain College and Bellevue are tied for the team lead at +13, while Carroll sits at +30 going into Tuesday. Rocky's Natasza Klimko leads the individual competition, firing an opening round 66 (-6).

A slow start in the morning round gave way to strong play in the afternoon for the Carroll Men, who sit fifth at +17 as a team.

Kyle Kennah (Laurel, Mont. / JR) and Tanner Cromwell (Anaconda, Mont. / JR) both shot 74 in the opening round, while TJ Fierling (North Bend, Wash. / SR) and Hudson Reinke (Filer, Idaho / JR) shot 76 and 77, respectively, to give the Saints their first round with four sub-80 scores on the season.

Carroll made up ground in round two, thanks in large part to a pair of under-par rounds by JT Slivinski (Monpelier, Idaho / SR) and TJ Fierling. Slivinski shot the best round of the day by any Saint in round two, carding a three-under 69 that featured a birdie-birdie-eagle stretch in the middle of his round. Fierling went under-par as well, firing a two-under round of 70 that featured seven birdies. Cromwell shot 75 in the second round, sitting in a tie for 27th with Slivinski at +5 total for the tourney, while Kennah rounded-out the scoring with a 78.

Montana Tech leads the Men's team competition at -21 as a team, followed by Bellevue at -19, and Rocky at -17. Tech's Tyler Avery leads the individual competition at -9.

Final round play will start tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
